Benefit Reminders

  • Active duty, reservists and National Guard members using tuition assistance (TA) should email va@vpcc.edu to notify us of intentions to use so we can hold classes.

  • Remember to contact Military and Veteran Services if you want to make schedule changes so we can lift the hold to allow the changes. If making a change on the day of the deadline, you must contact Military and Veteran Services prior to the close of business.

February Factoids:

Feb. 3: Four Chaplains Day. This day of remembrance and public observation is celebrated across the country. It honors four military chaplains who sacrificed their lives to save the lives of fellow service members in World War II. The men who came to be known as the Four Chaplains were Methodist minister the Reverend George L. Fox, Reformed Church in America minister the Reverend Clark V. Poling, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode (Ph.D.), and Roman Catholic priest Father John P. Washington. The four had met while attending Chaplains School at Harvard in preparation for each of their appointments as chaplains.

Feb. 4: USO birthday. The United Service Organizations, or USO, has been a fixture in military life for more than eight decades. Founded in 1941, the agency is a private, not-for-profit organization working in cooperation with the Department of Defense.

Feb. 19: United States Coast Guard Reserve Birthday. Officially set up in the late 1930s as a “civilian reserve” operation, the United States Coast Guard was non-military in nature. The Coast Guard Reserve Act of 1939 was the earliest incarnation. The Reserve soon evolved into something much greater than the original authors of the law had envisioned.
